SBE22>Chapter Meetings
As you’re all aware, Chapter 22 has been inactive for some time now and Christopher stepped down as Chapter Chair earlier this year. I have been in contact with John Poray to discuss breathing some new life into our chapter. To get this process going, I’m holding a chapter meeting on Wednesday, September 21, 6:00pm at WSTM/WTVH. I am willing to take over as Chapter Chair if the membership is agreeable. If somebody else is interested, please let me know and we can open it up for discussion at the meeting. At the end of the meeting, I would like to see a Chairman in place and a nominating committee selected to find interested members to fill the other officer positions.

This is an important meeting so please make every effort to attend. You are paying dues for SBE membership and you deserve to have an active chapter with informative monthly meetings. Please consider one of the officer positions. If you are interested, let me know.

If anybody has a copy of the chapter bylaws, please forward it to me. If we don’t find it, we will have to work on drafting new bylaws.

There will be a program at the 9/21 meeting. John Pfankuch from Heartland Video will be sponsoring our presenter, Michael Guthrie from Harmonic. John Pfankuch has promised giveaways to attendees.

Presentation Synopsis:

Channel sharing has become an important concept because of the spectrum auction. But the ATSC3 transition will likely drive the need for an additional round of channel sharing.

We will discuss the encoding technologies that allow channel sharing, ATSC3 characteristics, and how together it is possible to have a manageable transition.

Michael Guthrie’s Bio:

Michael Guthrie is an encoding technology specialist with Harmonic. Michael has been with the company for 18 years working with TV stations, Networks, and other Harmonic customers. He has been in the broadcast industry for over 30 years, having worked for ABC Television Network, McCurdy Radio Industries, Solid State Logic, Drake Automation and others. His roles have included engineering, marketing, sales, and field support. Located in the New York City area, Michael is currently responsible for solutions for ATSC and Network broadcasters and programmers.

ATSC 3.0 will be here before we know it. Are you ready? Take some time from your busy schedules to attend our September meeting!
